STRATEGIC DESIGN OVERVIEW
This living room was designed to prioritize comfort, openness, and everyday ease within a narrow footprint, guided by the client’s desire for relaxed lounging in a light, calming environment. A generously scaled sofa anchors the space, while the layout was carefully proportioned to maintain clear circulation and visual balance from entry through the seating zone.
Furnishings and finishes were selected to work harmoniously with the existing light walls and grey-toned wood flooring, introducing warmth and contrast while respecting the home’s permanent elements. Careful attention was given to scale and depth to ensure the room feels open rather than compressed.
The fireplace was approached with a phased design strategy. While the client plans to fully rework it in the future, a framed plaster surround was proposed as a refined interim solution that protects the original brick and visually softens the prominence of the existing firebox. This approach redefines the focal point without permanent alteration, allowing the space to feel resolved now while remaining flexible long-term.
The result is a refined, livable living room that feels open, balanced, and thoughtfully resolved, with a clear path from concept through implementation.
