STRATEGIC DESIGN OVERVIEW
This dining room was designed to transform a builder-grade space into a warm, layered environment that feels culturally grounded and refined. The goal was to introduce an Afrocentric influence in a way that feels intentional without becoming overly literal or theme-driven.
The existing dining chairs were maintained as a key constraint, informing the palette and material direction. To better suit the scale of the room, the undersized table was replaced with a longer dining table that seats eight, creating a stronger visual anchor and improving functionality. Two sculptural end chairs were introduced to add variation while maintaining cohesion across the seating arrangement.
Materiality was used to establish depth and identity within the space. A textured wallcovering adds movement, complemented by rich wood tones and styling that reinforces the cultural influence in a restrained way. Full-height drapery and a statement light fixture add verticality and presence without overwhelming the composition.
The result is a balanced dining space with clear attention to scale, material contrast, and atmosphere, designed for both everyday use and entertaining.
